…
Once we have entered the designated room, the magician followed me closely. I turned off with curiosity: „ May I be allowed to assist in the Resurrection process? “. After these words were addressed, the magician turned and said phlegmatically: “Do you think that just because you have power over life and death you mean something to me? I created you! “. I was hit with an existential crisis… I was just curious why it happened to me. At last, I was allowed to stay in the room, but without having received explicit permission … as if the magician saw through the confusion inside my soul.
I do not remember how it all started, but I knew for sure that I had witnessed something unique. I cannot explain my feeling, this eternal emptiness inside me as If my soul was falling into a bottomless pit. It was as if I had found out too early the hidden mystery of immortality. When I woke up from the shock, I saw her … It was on the table, the lines traced on her fragile body were impregnated in her skin. The Resurrection ritual was about to start, but it hit me. I knew her or at least I thought so. I remember vaguely that she said to me a few words when she hit my leather bag, back in Yorkshire: “Excuse My Clumsiness!” I answered in a hurry: “I don’t feel like any of this is real. People around me are like animals. Are you aware of this?” She looked at me terrified as if I was crazy. She tried to answer me, but it was too late because I have turned away…
I felt rage flowing through my veins and out every single one of my pores. The magician was in his world, he was talking to himself, chanting something and the girl was struggling, her legs were shaking and the face of the girl expressed agony and fear. I took a step forward, and said, “I command you to stop, I shouted, I will not talk again!”. The magician looked and said enraged: “How do you, a mortal scum, who just had his first sip of magic power, dare talk to me. If you want to live the rest of your sad life, with no powers and magic, go on, try to save her! ” Approaching to his neck with the scythe, I said, “instead of killing innocent people, in the name of a false justice, I’ d rather spend the rest of my days without powers! “Without giving a second thought, I allowed my powers to take control over my hands, and in the blink of an eye, the Magicians head was rolling on the floor.

A black hooded man started drawing lines on my limbs, white chalk lines from my fingers to my eyes. The Magician started saying stuff, couldn’t really tell what he was saying, only hearing the word “Reaper “. My head was losing consciousness, like the cuts on my body were slowly sewing themselves back together. My face was senseless, my right eye feeling heavy as well as my nose being lighter than usual. The lines became a dark black and were stuck to my skin, showing me where I came from and what I will be doing from now on. The lines on my hand were going right in my palm, having too black circles in both palms.
The Magician started laughing, then stopped abruptly, shouting at everyone to leave him with me…alone. He held my head in his hand and whispered in my ear…” Are you ready, Mr Reaper?”. He started laughing, grabbing a knife and dancing with it in his hand, stopping and looking at me…” Will you be the justice that hides in the shadow? Will you be the menacing wave of authority that this place needs? Will you be the new… Reaper?”. He looked at me confused, almost as if he wanted me to yell “yeah!”, but my body was still numb, I couldn’t even move a muscle. He picked me up and dragged me in a dark room, a light bulb just hanging from the ceiling and a window shattered…” It’s all I could give you from now… rest and prepare for tomorrow…Mr Reaper.”.
He laid me down on a cloth piece, having a ripped pillow to sleep on. I started dreaming, opening my eyes as if I was in an empty void, nothingness, as I could hear a voice coming from behind…” You look weaker than I imagined, Reaper.”. It startled me, looking behind as a dark figure looked at me. Its body was dark mist, having a black cloak on, hiding his head under. He pulled a scythe out of his stomach, coming closer, inspecting me. It started lifting my arms, looking at my body and legs, responding shortly after with…” Well… you had luck being alive after that.”. He chuckled, showing me his scythe, the brown rust sticking on to the metal, meanwhile the wooden stick was barely still in one piece. He chuckled again as he saw my reaction to his scythe…” That’s not yours… you still have to show me you deserve one…” As he started floating away in the nothingness, watching him leave as I woke up suddenly.

They all seemed to have agreed on God’s word. They all subconsciously communicated, as if the body were the eye and the mind… a simple hurdle. They called themselves “The Reapers”. They hunted the vulnerable, the addicts, the lost.
When I first came to Yorkshire, weather was most-expectantly rainy. Streetlights nodded in pain and the sky… monotone.
It had been a month since the murder, but its subsistence was inevitable, cruel, a menace to my existence. That cursed day would materialize into shattered matter every second. I sensed the smell of gas as an epiphany, omnipresent. ‘God? He was never here. His face is all covered in shroud, corruptly dark,’ my thoughts suffocate the last hope I had been holding on for the sickest time.
Rain made my eyes water and so, my capability to see basic objects around me was weaker than previously. Far, extremely far it seemed, a long figure made its entrance into Universe. Grey wool hat, baby-smooth face (recently shaved, as I have noticed a small bright red cut above his chin) and sinful green eyes.
“Are you a stranger?” he asked.
“A stranger?” I asked more than confused. Well, technically I was, but Yorkshire is A Stranger’s World.
“I said, are you a stranger to His teachings?”
Nonsense. I grip my baggage and make my way back, to the opposite street.
This almost oneiric occurrence was kept locked away in a corner of my mind… because man’s nature is to forget and fear the unforgettable.
A week had passed. When I was heading back to my lowly flat, I passed by a small building. The noise was unbearable. Women weeping and old man tenor voice were heard. A heavenly choir, I laughed.
I did not know what it was, I still don’t, but something or someone provoked me to enter. Dante’s awakening. Vergilius’ resurrection.
I entered.
“Save us! Save us, dear God, as we’ve sinned gravely!” people screeched while sitting on their blue knees.
The man. He was there.
In the next moment, unperceivable, I find myself lying on a long table similar to the one from Last Supper. I was unable to move.
“It is time, brothers and sisters, to cleanse this poor soul. Let us all cheer and pray for his redemption!” grey hatted man acclaimed.
I saw blood, I felt my insides exposed, my organs lying on the table. The man would place my organs, one by one, in his hat. As he was The Magician. Applause. This was in no world God’s work. At that exact moment, on that death ridden bed, I realized I had taken part to a ritual, a cult experiment. If only I had known that was only the beginning…
