William Shakespeare a decedat in anul 1616 adica la 52 de ani in Anglia.

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year.

In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace, to first be celebrated on March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere.

To turn Earth Day into a sustainable annual event rather than one that occurred every 10 years, Nelson and Bruce Anderson, New Hampshire’s lead organizers in 1990, formed Earth Day USA. Building on the momentum created by thousands of community organizers around the world, Earth Day USA coordinated the next five Earth Day celebrations through 1995.

April 22 Earth Day was focused on the United States, an organization launched by Denis Hayes, who was the original national coordinator in 1970, took it international in 1990 and organized events in 141 nations. Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues that troubled the world.

Mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting the status of environmental issues onto the world stage, Earth Day activities in 1990 gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Unlike the first Earth Day in 1970, this 20th Anniversary was waged with stronger marketing tools, greater access to television and radio, and multi million-dollar budgets.

Multa lume nu stie si chiar nu e o pacaleala: Pe 1 Aprilie se sarbatoreste si Ziua internationala a pasarilor.

Pentru majoritatea oamenilor, 1 Aprilie este ziua păcălelii dar, pentru iubitorii de păsări şi ornitologi această zi aparţine celebrării Zilei Internaţionale a Păsărilor.

Păsările contează. Zborul, cântecul şi frumuseţea lor încântă şi inspiră, sunt sanitari ai pădurilor, împrăştie seminţe, fertilizează solul, ca adevărate atracţii turistice sprijină economia şi în plus ne dau nenumărate lecţii de viaţă. Ziua Mondială a Păsărilor este sărbătorită încă din anul 1906 şi are la baza Convenţia pentru apărarea păsărilor care promoveză principii legate de importanţa lor în ecosistemul planetei.

Această zi este, anual, marcată în cadrul programului UNESCO “Omul şi bisofera”, neîntâmplator fiind celebrată în Aprilie. La 1 aprilie 1906 a fost semnată Convenţia Internaţională pentru Protecţia Păsărilor, unul din primele documente ecologice.

Brâncuși spunea: „Spre imensitatea văzduhului – aceasta este Pasărea mea. Copil fiind, am visat totdeauna că aş fi vroit să zbor printre arbori, spre ceruri. De 45 de ani port nostalgia visului acestuia şi continuu să creez Păsări măiestre. Eu nu doresc să reprezint o pasăre, ci să exprim însuşirea în sine, spiritul ei: zborul, elanul…”

*Italy,France,Belgium and the French-speaking areas of Switzerland and Canada:

1 April tradition is often known as “April fish”. This includes attempting to attach a paper fish to the victim’s back without being noticed. Such fish feature prominently on many late 19th- to early 20th-century French April Fools’ Day postcards.

*India

In India, there have been numerous references to April Fools’ Day in both cinema and popular literature and people are jovially associated with the date. In Indian cinema, Bollywood’s movie April fool (1964 film) along with its title song is also evergreen. Similar examples may be looked for in other art & craft related fields.

*Romania

In Romania, an April Fool joke is revealed by shouting “Pacaleala de 1 Aprilie!” at the recipient, who becomes the “April fool”.

*Poland

In Poland, “prima aprilis”  is a day in which many jokes are told; various hoaxes are prepared by people, media and even public institutions. Serious activities are usually avoided. This conviction is so strong that the anti-Turkish alliance with Leopold I signed on 1 April 1683, was backdated to 31 March.

*United Kingdom

In the UK, an April Fool joke is revealed by shouting “April fool!” at the recipient, who becomes the “April fool”. A study in the 1950s, by folklorists Ioana and Peter Opie, found that in the UK, and in countries whose traditions derived from the UK, the joking ceased at midday. A person playing a joke after midday is the “April fool” themselves.
