Alex Costanda, a 10a B

In the serialized television show “Prison break”, the main character decides that he will intentionally be imprisoned, in order to help his brother, who was wrongfully sentenced to death, break out. The story presents the hardship one faces in prison and the effects that the actions of influential people have on the lives of normal civilians.

The TV show presents the main character as an incredibly smart person, that has a sort of balance between emotion and intellect compared to other TV geniuses. He uses this vast intellect to his advantage, but his main motivation is the love he has for his brother. Not only does he care deeply for his brother, he also starts developing romantic feelings for a doctor in the prison, feelings for which he hadn’t planned ahead. As the story progresses, we learn that, besides his intelligence, he has great empathy towards others, which is why at times he puts himself at risk in order to save the people he grows attached to during the show.

The story shows that his time in prison changes him from an intelligent, but at times naïve man, into someone who has enough experience to not put himself in danger whilst trying to save his loved ones. While some people think that the writers getting rid of the characters’ central flaws was a bad decision, I think that the character was created to be a sort of guardian angel for those around him, which would justify the change.

In conclusion, the story is a well-made piece about how love is a stronger motivator than fear or pain, and how a man that is balanced between emotion and intellect cause great things to happen.
