The European Commission website has statistics about the poverty in Europe.
According to these statistics, Romania has the highest rate of poverty and social exclusion in the European Union
Last year in the European Union, 124.5 million people or 24.8 percent of the population were at risk of poverty or social exclusion, up from 24.3 percent in 2011 and 23.7 percent in 2008.
In Romania, about 42 percent of citizens fell into one of these groups, according to the Eurostat study we mentioned above.
